JANUARY KEY POINTS
Livestock and meat production monthly trend movements for January 2017:
- Cattle slaughter increased by 1% for January 2017 when compared to December 2016 but experienced a year-on-year decrease of 10% or 63,200 head.
- Beef production increased 1.5% in January 2017 but year-on-year it was down 7% or 12,600 tonnes compared to January 2016.
- Sheep slaughter increased marginally in January 2017 (up 0.6%) compared with December 2016, but was down 20% or 136,000 head year-on-year.
- Lamb slaughter increased by 52,400 head or 3% in January 2017 and when compared with January 2016 increased by 6% or 122,100 head.
- Lamb meat production increased 3% in January 2017 and was up 8% or 3,600 tonnes when compared to January 2016.
